What is the EM(POWER) MEMBERSHIP?

The EM(POWER)™ membership is here to support families facing challenges. It gives you access to essential resources at no upfront cost. It is designed to empower you, supporting your independence while giving you access to the items you and your family need and want.

You can become an EM(POWER) member if you're referred by one of our community referral partners. If you or your family receive support in the community, you can ask them to refer you. Once you're referred, we'll guide you through the process of setting up your membership so you can make the most of everything it offers.

How do you get it?

  • Getting started is a breeze. Once one of our community referral partners refers you, you'll receive an email from us with simple steps to activate your membership. We'll guide you through everything, and if you need any help along the way, we're here to support you.

  • Immediate access to the things you need: With your TOKENS, you can pick up clothes, toys, and household essentials, helping you and your family get what you need without spending extra money.

  • Be part of a supportive community: These events are about more than just exchanging items. They’re about connecting with other families in your community and building a supportive, sustainable environment where everyone benefits.

  • Flexible access: Whether you prefer attending in-person events or browsing our online marketplace, the membership gives you flexible ways to access resources. It’s designed to fit your needs.

Why the EM(POWER) Membership is helpful

What's included?

  • A six-month Membership: You'll receive 8 TOKENS,  which you can use at our community EX(CHANGE) events or in our online marketplace to get pre-loved items.

  • Free access to standard EX(CHANGE) events: For 6 months you can attend as many of our standard EX(CHANGE) events as you like with no entry fee.

(Note: Special events, like the Christmas EX(CHANGE), may have a small additional cost.)

The membership is designed with your privacy in mind. Your participation is confidential, ensuring that you can access the support you need in a way that respects your independence. Funded by the Open University Open Business Creator Grant, we’re also working with local partners to reach more families like yours.

You can bring up to 10 items per person to exchange. You’ll receive RE(YOU)S TOKENS™ for each item, which you can use to pick up other items at the event or save for the future. The TOKENS you earn can also be used in our online marketplace. Cost: Your EM(POWER) membership gives you free entry to all standard EX(CHANGE) events. Plus, we include a complimentary drink and a snack. (Note: Special events, like our Christmas EX(CHANGE), may have a small extra fee.) These events are family-friendly, relaxed, and a great opportunity to meet others while accessing things your family needs.

Community EX(CHANGE)Events (Included with EM(POWER) Membership)

In addition to attending in-person events, you can use the RE(YOU)S TOKENS from your membership on our online EX(CHANGE)™ platform. This platform is a simple, sustainable way to access pre-loved items from home. You can browse various items, from clothes to household items, and use your TOKENS to get what you need. How it works: You can use the TOKENS earned at EX(CHANGE) events or purchase additional TOKENS if needed. Log in to the platform, browse items, and use your TOKENS to get what you need. This flexible option means you can benefit from the membership even if you can't attend an event in person.

Whats Next

At the end of the 6 months

At the end of your 6-month EM(POWER)™ membership, your RE(YOU)S TOKENS™ do not expire. Any TOKENS you’ve earned or saved remain available for you to use in the future.

At this point, you have choices:

  • You can continue using your TOKENS at future EX(CHANGE) events or on the online EX(CHANGE)™ platform.

  • You can choose to move onto our EX(CHANGER)™ membership, which gives ongoing access to events and the online platform through a paid membership.

  • You can take a break and return later — your TOKENS will still be there when you’re ready.

There is no obligation to move onto another membership. The choice is always yours.

Moving to EX(CHANGER)™ Membership (optional)

  • If you’d like to continue as a member beyond the EM(POWER)™ period, you can choose to move onto our EX(CHANGER)™ membership.

  • This option is for individuals and families who want to stay connected to the RE(YOU)S community and continue accessing EX(CHANGE) events and the online platform through a paid membership.

  • We’ll share clear information about this option before your EM(POWER)™ membership ends, so you have time to decide what works best for you.

All items should be in good condition and ready for a new home. Q: How do I join the EM(POWER) Membership? Once referred, families receive TOKENS to use at our events or online, with free access to standard EX(CHANGE) events for a year. Q: Can businesses get involved with RE(YOU)S? A: Absolutely! Businesses can join our RE(SOURCE) Hub to collaborate with other companies and support community initiatives. It’s a great way to share resources and solve business and community challenges. Q: How do the TOKENS work? A: TOKENS are used at both our EX(CHANGE) events and online platforms. You earn TOKENS by bringing items to exchange or by purchasing them. You can then use TOKENS to "buy" pre-loved items that others have brought or listed online. Q: What’s the difference between a standard EX(CHANGE) event and a special event? A: Standard EX(CHANGE) events are the regular community events we host where you can exchange items for TOKENS. Special events, like our Christmas EX(CHANGE), are themed and may have an additional fee due to added features. Q: Do my TOKENS expire at the end of the EM(POWER)™ membership? A: No. RE(YOU)S TOKENS™ do not expire. You can use them at future events or on the online platform whenever you choose. Q: What happens after my 6-month EM(POWER)™ membership ends? A: You can move onto an EX(CHANGER™ membership, pause and return later, or continue using any TOKENS you’ve saved. There is no obligation to continue. Q: Can a referral organisation support a member beyond 6 months? A: Yes. Referral partners can choose to subsidise or fully cover an EX(CHANGER™ membership if this supports continuity and access.
